METROTECH CENTER
Street seats, summer 2014
We piloted our standard design for mobile Street Seats at MetroTech Center working with the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (DBP) to activate an underutilized street in front of a grocery store. DBP’s maintenance provider, The Doe Fund, also played an active role in helping us design an amenity that could be maintained with ease and installed and removed efficiently.
Outcomes
Success of the first pilot location led other businesses in the district to request installations, with an additional site created the following year. The replicability of the design led NYCDOT to adopt as their standard Street Seats design, with other installations created in Midtown Manhattan, East New York, and Park Slope.
Approximate Budget $40,000
